What Higher Education Has Meant To Me

Another year of school begins for me! Another challenge, another semester, another chance to further myself and branch out there. Over the last 4 years college has taught me so much. It gave me insight to become the person I want to be. Over the years I’ve covered an assortment of topics from biology, to literature, to Internet Crime, politics, social media, history, the galaxy and universe to even recently film school. Each class has challenged me to one extent or another and molded my mind into what it is today. I’ve had to prove myself and think outside of the box. I have also had many debates with other students whose beliefs did and did not correlate with mine. I’ve been exposed to other cultures and met so many different people from backgrounds I am not familiar to, mostly great people by the way. It is also very different from high school. The teachers are engaging and passionate about what they teach. It also seems as though every campus I’ve been on seems to be lax and chill. It’s a whole other environment compared to high school. In high school it felt as though I was being controlled and in a rated “G” environment. But college seems to be more open minded and free! I feel that I can be myself and not hide behind a façade. College has a way of finding out who you are as a person and at the same time figuring out who you want to be. There are also so many perks when you’re a college student! To those of you who are afraid of college or want to go back I encourage you to do so. Each class will challenge you and expand your mind. This nation can only benefit from being more educated not the other way around. I love college and will continue to advocate for it once I’ve graduated. It has made me a better person and has prepared me to take on the world! I just hope if you are not planning to do so you will at least consider it one day.
